Rhode Island, a researcher at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, announced that it has developed a new process to produce perovskite hybrid thin film solar cells. Research papers have been published last week in the Royal Society of Chemistry.
The Brown University team used a room temperature solvent bath instead of a high temperature thermal annealing process to deposit sunlight-absorbing perovskite crystals onto the substrate.
The paper shows that the battery conversion efficiency based on the solvent extraction (SSE) process can be as high as 15.2%, while the average conversion efficiency of a translucent battery cell with a thickness of less than 100 nm is slightly higher than 10%.
"The SSE process is characterized by greenhouse processes, rapid crystallization, uniform and large-area deposition, film thickness control, super smoothness, and versatility. These features make the SSE process suitable for the production of 'volume-to-roll' retractable blends of perovskite films. Process.†The paper stated.
In just a few years, perovskite photovoltaic cell efficiency increased from 5% to 20%
The research team stated that the research results are based on the recent experimental progress of perovskite absorbing materials. It is worth noting that the conversion efficiency of perovskite-mixed thin film photovoltaic cells has soared from less than 5% to as much as 20% in only five years.
However, from a commercial point of view, this technology still has a long way to go. Earlier this month, start-up firm Oxford PV closed a bid for a total of 8 million pounds of commercial products based on perovskite technology. (Translator: Xiaoyun Xiao)
