1 Excellent chemical resistance. The cured epoxy resin is somewhat chemically stable, resistant to alkali and oil. This is because there is no ester bond in the epoxy resin, and the aliphatic hydroxyl group contained does not react with the base, and the cured product of the paint has a three-dimensional network structure. Therefore, epoxy resin coatings are often used as inner walls for anticorrosive primers, oil grooves, and the like. However, epoxy paints are generally poorly resistant to acid.
2 Strong adhesion. Especially for polar substrates such as metal (steel, aluminum), ceramics, glass, concrete, wood. The reason is that the epoxy resin contains a strong polar ether group and a hydroxyl group, which generates a strong interaction force with the substrate interface.
3 High strength and good toughness. When the strength is high, the epoxy resin contains an aromatic ring; the good toughness is because the epoxy resin contains an ether bond, which gives it the ability to perform internal rotation of the molecular chain, and is not brittle.
4 Electrical insulation is good. The cured epoxy resin exhibits excellent insulation properties, and its electrical properties are a breakdown voltage of 35 to 50 kV/mm at room temperature and a volume resistance of 10 Ω·cm.
5 Good heat resistance. Generally 80~100 °C, some up to 200 °C, or even higher.
6 The curing shrinkage rate is small. The size is stable and it is not easy to crack. Generally it is 1%~2%. The phenolic resin is 8% to 10%, the unsaturated polyester resin is 4% to 6%, and the silicone resin is 4% to 8%.
7 Photoaging is poor. The aromatic ether bond in the cured epoxy resin is degraded and broken under ultraviolet irradiation, so that the outdoor weather resistance is poor. The bisphenol A type epoxy resin cured paint film is easy to be powdered and lost in the outdoor, and it is not suitable for outdoor anticorrosive paint. However, heterocyclic and aliphatic epoxy paints can be used outdoors.
8 Low temperature curability is poor. Epoxy resin generally has a curing temperature of 10 ° C or higher, otherwise the curing is slow. It is generally not suitable to use the environment at 10 °C, which is difficult for large-scale outdoor construction in winter.
