Experts introduce OMNI circulation valve and precautions for use

American Standard Valve Network News: In the foreign oil technology services, especially for deep wells, ultra-deep well testing services, more and more full-channel APR tools are used. The OMNI circulation valve is the core part of the tool in addition to the test valve. The normal operation of the tool is directly related to the success of the test. Therefore, the correct use of OMNI circulation valve is particularly important, the following American standard valve experts will introduce you to the OMNI circulation valve and precautions for use.

The OMNI circulation valve is a circulation valve that can be operated multiple times by annulus pressure and is a more advanced circulation valve. The circulation valve is easy to operate, and only needs periodic pressure and pressure to complete the operation. And because the switch can be repeated multiple times, it becomes the most commonly used tool in APR test columns. Although the operation of the OMNI circulation valve is simple, there are still many notable points in maintenance. If you are not careful, it will not only affect the success of the process because it cannot operate the valve as expected, but also cause improper operation. The tool is damaged, causing unnecessary damage. The experience and methods given below are obtained by the author in combination with dozens of layers of field applications in the Indonesian testing service. It is believed that the operators of APR tools will be helpful in future use. The successful application of this tool will also expand our technical service space.

Common anomalies in operation

(1) If it is obvious that the OMNI valve is not running, it is recommended to increase the operating pressure of the annulus. If the tool is not working properly, it is most likely to be at the stroke position of 3 to 4 turns before the cycle position.

(2) Increase the operating pressure to the maximum allowable pressure until the tool reflects the correct position. If the tool still does not respond, the most likely condition is that the ball valve of the OMNI valve is closed.

(3) If the tool does not respond when the ball valve is closed, the pressure through the ball valve should be balanced and the tool operated at a higher operating pressure.

(4) If it is difficult to close the circulation hole, it is likely that the circulation hole is partially blocked, and the pressure should be increased. It is recommended to use a higher opening pressure to disengage the debris that blocks the circulation hole.

Problems that should be paid attention to during maintenance

1. Inspection before disassembly

The OMNI valve should be in the circulating position before disassembly. Otherwise, the tool can only disassemble the ball valve. It is impossible to disassemble other parts. Any forced disassembly may damage the tool.

2. Use of special tools

To avoid damage to the OMNI valve's pawls and seals when removing the recirculating section, special tools should be used when installing and removing the circulation sleeve, and tools such as copper rods should be avoided.

3. The direction of the ball valve

Regardless of whether the ball valve is open or closed, there are two positions that allow the ball to be mounted on the tool, so care should be taken to pay attention to the direction of the ball of the ball valve during maintenance. For a just-maintained OMNI valve, it should be in the circulation zone with both the circulation hole open and the ball valve closed. After the normal installation is completed, the "eyes" of the ball should be facing outwards, that is, away from the tool. If the ball valve is installed, it is difficult to find when performing functional tests on the ground. The tool can still operate as expected from the cycle position to the test position, but after the tool is lowered, the OMNI valve will only stay in the test position and can no longer run to the cycle position for normal cycle operation.
