However, since the housing of the reducer is split, if the roundness of the bearing housing hole of the upper and lower housings is not properly controlled, the outer ring of the bearing will be caught after assembly so that it cannot float. As a result, one row of bearings is subjected to axial and radial forces (as shown on the right side of Figure 3), while the other column (left side of Figure 3) does not withstand forces or withstands small radial forces. The speed of the input shaft is already high speed for the self-aligning bearing. For the side that receives both the axial force and the radial force, the roller will have a large deflection, which will cause crushing and impact on the frame beam of the cage. In addition, due to this deflection, more sliding friction is generated, which causes an increase in friction between the rolling elements and the raceway, and an increase in heat generation.
In contrast, cylindrical roller bearings are more suitable for floating ends than spherical roller bearings (as shown on the right side of Figure 2). Figure 4 shows a NU type cylindrical roller bearing. From the internal structure, the function of the ribs on both sides of the outer ring is to axially position the rolling elements, while the inner ring has no ribs, so it can float under the action of the axial force. Therefore, even if the reducer housing is caught in the bearing outer ring, the amount of thermal expansion can still be released. Although the cylindrical roller bearing does not have the function of aligning, it increases the rigidity of the shaft and is advantageous for ensuring proper meshing of the bevel gear.
3. Fixed end bearing selection
In contrast to the fixed end of the input shaft, in addition to the bearing selection of Figure 1, double row tapered roller bearings can also be considered (as shown on the left side of Figure 2). With this type of bearing, there are two advantages.
First, better carrying capacity. For tapered roller bearings, there is a line contact between the rolling elements and the raceways; and between the rolling elements of the four-point angular contact ball bearings and the raceways, point contact. Therefore, when force is applied to the former, the force is distributed on a line; for the latter, the force is concentrated at one point. This design feature makes the tapered roller bearing have better bearing capacity than the four-point angular contact ball bearing. With the development of the scraper conveyor, the installed power is also getting larger and larger. The use of tapered roller bearings will better cope with high loads and also help to increase the rigidity of the shaft. Considering the tight fit of the bearing and the shaft, the double inner ring tapered roller bearing is more convenient during installation, while the double outer tapered roller bearing is more rigid to the input shaft.
