Grinding wheel hardness and organization

(A) Hardness refers to the degree of difficulty of the abrasive particles on the surface of the grinding wheel under the external force. If the abrasive particles are easy to fall off, it means that the hardness of the grinding wheel is lower, and vice versa, it means that the hardness of the grinding wheel is higher. Thus, the hardness of the grinding wheel and the hardness of the abrasive are two different concepts and cannot be confused. The same kind of abrasive grains can be made into grinding wheels with different hardness, which mainly depends on the performance and manufacturing process of the bonding agent.

(b) The organization of the grinding wheel is a parameter indicating the tightness of its internal structure. Abrasives, binders, and voids are used to measure the volume ratio inside the wheel. The greater the proportion of abrasives contained in the grinding wheel, the tighter the organization; conversely, the larger the gap, the looser the grinding wheel organization.

(3) The internal organization of the grinding wheel is tight, and the geometry of the grinding wheel is easily maintained under conditions of stress release, which can increase the life of the grinding wheel and increase the grinding accuracy; if the internal organization of the grinding wheel is loose, on the contrary, it easily causes the deformation of the grinding wheel and the wet cutting. Or when dry cut, it will easily cause clogging of the chips, which will reduce the life of the grinding wheel.
